Endangered animals

What are endangered animals? Endangered animals are those that are in imminent risk of becoming extinct, either globally or in a specific political jurisdiction. Some causes contribute to this, such as the fact that there are few of that animal remaining, predators have increased in number, the climate in which it lives is changing, or the habitat in which it lives has been destroyed.

Javan rhinoceros

In the wild, there are between 58 and 68 left, with none in captivity. Rhinos are frequently poached for their horns, but habitat destruction has also contributed to their extinction. On the southwestern tip of Java, Indonesia, Ujung Kulon National Park is home to the only population of Javan rhinos. In 2010, the only remaining population, in Vietnam, was wiped out.

Vaquita

The Vaquita is the rarest endangered marine mammal in the world. There are only 10 left in the wild. They are found solely in the northern part of the Gulf of California, Mexico.

Mountain gorillas

Today, around 1,063 mountain gorillas are thought to exist in the wild. They are in Uganda's Mgahinga National Park, Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, DR Congo's Virunga National Park, and the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Tigers

Today, the number of tigers are estimated to be around 3,900 in the wild. India is the best country to see tigers in the wild, but you can also spot tigers in Bangladesh, China, Sumatra, Siberia and Nepal.
